German magazine Kicker claim that Georginio Rutter did not actually want to join Leeds United in the January window from Hoffenheim. The report says he “shed bitter tears” over the move, and had to be convinced to move by an agent.
Rutter, 20, joined Leeds for a club-record fee worth £35million in January. It comes after impressing in the Bundesliga, since joining Hoffenheim from Ligue 1 side Rennes. He has clocked up 19 goal involvements in 64 Hoffenheim outings.
Since his move to Leeds, Rutter has been somewhat unlucky. Starting only three of his eight games for Leeds in league and cup, Rutter had a goal harshly disallowed and then hit the post against Fulham. He was close against Accrington.
With Rodrigo injured and Patrick Bamford missing against Chelsea, it might be that Rutter leads the line again against Brighton this weekend. New light has been revealed over his move to Leeds. It does not paint him in a good picture.

Indeed, Kicker report that Rutter did not actually want to leave Hoffenheim for Leeds – and he even shed tears over having to leave Hoffenheim for Elland Road. It is believed that his agents had to convince Rutter over a £35m deal.

Rutter has shown promise. Without scoring, when Leeds really need him to hit the ground running, he has not pulled up any trees. But, there have been some moments in which he has impressed. He just needs that first goal for Leeds.
While the desire not to join Leeds is worrying, he is here now and the only thing he can do is impress in a Leeds shirt. For his sake, for the club’s sake and for the fans, the best thing Rutter can do is open his account on Saturday.
