Leeds Live report that Luke Ayling was ‘fuming’ with Crysencio Summerville during the first half of Leeds United’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday – after Summerville conceded possession in the build up to Joao Felix hitting the bar.
Leeds suffered a second successive defeat at Stamford Bridge under Javi Gracia – though there were plenty of positives from the loss. The Whites had plenty of chances, more than enough to at least break their own deadlock in London.
But Chelsea secured all three points in what was a much-needed win for the under-pressure Graham Potter. Wesley Fofana provided the difference, heading home from a Ben Chilwell corner on 53 minutes. Leeds lacked cutting edge.
Chelsea came within a few inches of taking the lead on 22 minutes. The Blues dominated the first 30 minutes before Leeds grew into the game – and Felix hit the bar. It came after Summerville lost possession, and Ayling was not happy.
Leeds Live report: “In the 22nd minute, Leeds were in attack. Weston McKennie had carried the ball a decent distance and into the final third. He gave the ball to Summerville, expecting it straight back. The winger had other ideas.

“He holding onto it, Chelsea nicked the ball before Felix crashed a shot off the bar. Ayling bound over to Summerville, red in the face and screaming at him. The youngster was left with no doubt about how unimpressed the captain was.”

It was a moment of inexperience from Summerville. Of course, the Netherlands youngster is renowned for his dribbling and his ability to go past players. But with that, comes experience and the know how of when to keep it, and to pass it.
In this example, he would have been better to release the ball and keep the on-rushing McKennie ticking. Ultimately, another loss but there are positives from the defeat. Next up for Leeds is in-form Brighton at home, another real test.
