Leicester City have started talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a move for Leeds United-linked midfielder Harry Winks.

That is according to the Daily Telegraph, who report negotiations are already underway between the two clubs over a potential deal, with new manager Enzo Maresca viewing him as someone who can help the Foxes push for promotion.

Winks was mentioned as a potential target for Leeds earlier in the window with Italian outlet Samp News 24 reporting the Whites had reignited their interest in a potential loan deal.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan in at Sampdoria, where he made 20 appearances but could not stop them being relegated to Serie B.

Sampdoria – who have been recently taken over by Andrea Radrizzani – had an option-to-buy in the deal with Spurs, but their demotion to the second tier meant they were unable to trigger it.

Leicester ready to beat Leeds to Winks signing

Leicester look set to have stolen a march on Leeds in the race to sign Winks, with the Foxes now firmly able to begin their player recruitment drive, as is evident here.

With Maresca having been in place for almost two weeks as their new manager, Leicester are well ahead of Leeds in their preparation for the new season.

Leeds, however, are still waiting on receiving EFL approval on San Francisco 49ers Enterprises‘ takeover, meaning they remain without a manager.

Until that arrives, it is a waiting game for Leeds and that could see them miss out on some key player targets if it does not arrive as swiftly as possible.

All Leeds fans can hope for is that things are ready to go almost instantly once the 49ers are officially through the door at Elland Road.
