Leeds United are still yet to receive any offers for Illan Meslier but are planning for life in the Championship without him.
That is according to the Athletic, who report Leeds will allow Meslier to go if ‘an agreeable fee is presented’ to them, though they are not actively pushing him towards the exit door.
Meslier is widely expected to be one of several first team players to depart Leeds this summer following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last month.
However, the 23-year-old saw his stock drop dramatically over the course of the 2022/23 campaign, making a string of costly errors that saw him drop to the bench for the final four matches.
Despite starting nine of France’s 10 qualifiers for the current U21s European Championships, he was also named as a substitute in their tournament opener against Italy on Thursday.
Leeds planning for Meslier exit
A host of big Premier League clubs have been monitoring Meslier’s progress for some time, including Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
It had looked at one stage as though Meslier would command huge money to move on from Leeds, but that aforementioned trio are all reported to be looking elsewhere in their hunt for a new shotstopper.
With that in mind, it is unclear what sort of club will come in for Meslier and it may well be that he has to leave England in order to recapture his form.
There is no doubt Meslier still has the potential to develop into a top ‘keeper, having already made over 100 appearances in the Premier League at just 23.
That said, a transfer this summer certainly feels like the best option for all parties, with Leeds in need of a major overhaul of the squad.
