Football website 90Min say Leeds United are not the only club interested in a move to sign Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips – with Newcastle United, Leicester City, West Ham and Wolves also keen on landing the midfielder.

Phillips, 27, has endured a miserable start to his Manchester City career – playing just 13 times in all competitions. Injury during the first half of the campaign has limited his game time. Now, he finds Rodri well-positioned ahead.

Bought by City for a fee of £42m plus £3m in add-ons, the Premier League champions will probably want to keep hold of the midfielder and given their investment time to come good. But Phillips is keen on leaving in the summer.

Indeed, he is concerned his lack of game time could affect his chances at England level, as per 90Min. That could allow City to let him go and the chasing pack is hardly sparse. Leeds are keen on bringing him back to Yorkshire.

However, other Premier League clubs are interested. Indeed, 90Min say West Ham are another looking to sign the midfielder having tried to get him while at Leeds. Newcastle want “underrated” Phillips, as do Wolves and Leicester.

Leeds not only club interested in Phillips with Newcastle keen

So, which club would be a good fit? Well, Newcastle are crying out for a holding midfielder. They let Jonjo Shelvey leave the club – and it means Bruno Guimaraes is playing in a deeper role. But the Brazilian is better, further forward.

Having Phillips would get the best out of Guimaraes. Plus, the Toon look as though they will be in Europe so a move to Tyneside would appeal. Leicester and Wolves are in a relegation scrap with Leeds – so Leeds will tempt him more.

But if Phillips brushes aside his allegiance to our side and choose to leave The Etihad, you would have to say that a move to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle suits him best. Indeed, they are best-placed to be able to afford his wages.
