The connection between Leeds United and Manchester is growing. Not only is there a strong bond between managers Pep Guardiola and Marcelo Bielsa – but the two clubs have engaged in some transfer business in recent seasons. Ian Poveda joined Leeds from Manchester City in January 2020, while Jack Harrison has been on loan at Leeds from City for the past three seasons.
Now, another connection could be made – in the form of Manchester City’s out-on-loan midfielder Yangel Herrera. A 23-time Venezuela international, Herrera has been with Spanish side Granada during the past two seasons – helping them defy expectation in La Liga and even reach the Europa League quarter-finals – where they have currently face Manchester United.
A holding midfielder, the South American star has clocked up 76 appearances for Granada during his two-year loan – but an interesting summer window now awaits for the midfielder. A permanent move to Granada could be on the cards, but the midfielder’s performances are likely to tempt other clubs too. West Ham are said to be one of those.
Southampton, too, according to Goal. But now, a report from Leeds United-based podcast Talking Shutt claim that Leeds are also interested in signing the midfielder in the upcoming window – though it is unclear how much City would want for the young star. Leeds certainly need a midfielder, one that can bulk out their current options – and back-up for Kalvin Phillips.
Judging by the positions Herrera has been used in this season, he would be able to do the number eight role adopted by Mateusz Klich and more recently Stuart Dallas – while also being able to do a similar job to Phillips in the number four position. Talking Shutt reported the exclusive news on their social media channels – including Instagram.
