Leeds United could break their club-record today, with the Daily Mail reporting that they are hopeful that they will finalise the signing of Georginio Rutter in the coming hours.
Rutter has been heavily linked with a £30 million move to Elland Road over the last few days. And it seemed that a bid was moving into the home straight more recently.
Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg suggested on Twitter earlier this week that the forward was set to undergo a medical within the next 48 hours.
Leeds hope to finalise Rutter deal today
It seems that Leeds are now hoping to make an imminent announcement. The Daily Mail is reporting that the Whites want to finalise the move for the Frenchman today.
Rutter wants to undergo his medical tests as soon as possible. Leeds meanwhile, have managed to negotiate Hoffenheim down from their initial £35 million asking price.
It is not clear whether there is any chance of Leeds announcing the move today. But it would certainly provide Jesse Marsch’s side with a big lift if they could before Friday’s trip to Aston Villa.
The coming weeks have the potential to be defining for Marsch. Leeds have been struggling for any consistency this season. And with that, they remain in a precarious position.
Whatever criticisms can be made of the board, there is no doubt that they have been prepared to spend money in this window. Not many teams are going to break their club-record this month.
Rutter is a youngster with lots of potential. But he is moving into a squad which is much better than last season. So he should be given time to adapt to his surroundings.
It is important for Marsch to get Leeds clicking at long last. So the sooner Rutter is ready, the better for the Whites boss.
