Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips this summer with the player keen to leave Anfield – and now, the Yorkshire Evening Post says Leeds have had a phone call with the player’s agent.
Phillips played five times for Liverpool last season. But, he is top-tier standard. He starred during the 20-21 season in Liverpool’s injury crisis, which saw him become a “cult hero” at Anfield, according to Robbie Fowler in the Mirror.
But with two years left on his £24k-a-week contract, and struggling for game time last season, The Mail say Phillips is keen to go. Phil Hay writes in The Athletic that Leeds are looking at the defender, and the Reds want a £10m fee.
Now, Graham Smyth reports on the YEP’s website that Leeds have spoken to the agents of a number of players such as Liverpool defender Phillips, who he names. The Whites are yet to make any incoming signings this summer.
“Though a thorough recruitment process has been completed, no manager has been announced. Though transfer meetings are being held and phone calls to agents of players like Nat Phillips, no players have yet been signed.”

Phillips would be a wonderful signing, given Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Rasmus Kristensen are expected to leave Leeds in the coming days and weeks. But, Leeds must be wary about Charlie Cresswell’s senior pathway.
If we bring in Phillips, Cresswell will be seeking assurances that he is first choice and deserves to start for Leeds. With his contract ending in 2024, and boasting a release clause, the signing of Phillips may see Cresswell depart.
Leeds will have to do some convincing to show Cresswell that he is in direct competition with Phillips. The latter will not be coming to Elland Road to play second-choice to Cresswell. A big decision to make in the next few weeks.
