Report: Leeds have now opened talks to lure 57-year-old manager to Elland Road

Brazilian outlet Esporte IG report that Leeds United have opened talks to hire Carlos Carvalhal after the Portuguese boss confirmed his exit from La Liga side Celta Vigo over the weekend – but Carvalhal also has interest from Brazil.

Carvalhal, 57, has just worked his magic to keep Celta in La Liga – beating Barcelona on the final day to win 2-1 and actually, end up in 13th. But he has since taken to Instagram to confirm that he is leaving Celta, ahead of a new job.

Indeed, the Portuguese gaffer is now looking for his 22nd role. The report from Esporte IG states that Flamengo and Atletico Mineiro are considering moves to lure him to Brazil. It would be the first time he’s moved to South America.

He has worked in Portuguese, Turkey, Greece, Spain, England and the Middle East. Leeds are keen to bring him back to England after Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea, leaving in 2018. Esporte IG say Leeds are in talks.

Is Carvalhal the man? Things are starting to gather pace and with the 49ers taking over at Elland Road, this feels like it is going to be a big week to be a Leeds fan. A new manager could be identified and Carvalhal could be that man.

While Leeds could do a lot worse given his experience, and his time at Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea, is he one that really excites supporters? Are any of the managers linked with Leeds as exciting as fans are actually hoping for?

Steven Gerrard, Scott Parker and others have been linked but Leeds fans are not happy with those options, either. Carvalhal is a very solid appointment, even a little safe. Leeds need slightly less safe to secure an instant return.
