Report: Leeds have included clause in Javi Gracia deal that could see him stay longer

The Daily Star claim that Leeds United have included a clause in a deal for manager Javi Gracia that will see him remain at the club beyond the end of the season – if the Spanish gaffer can keep Leeds in the Premier League come May.

Gracia, 52, has been spotted both entering and leaving the offices at Leeds with the expectation being that he is set to be announced as the club’s new manager. Tim Thornton has reported that an announcement is imminent on Gracia.

It is expected that he will sign a contract until the end of the season. A deal will included bonuses if he keeps the club in the top tier. But also, the Star now report that the deal could include a clause, if Leeds stay in the Premier League.

Indeed, it would be incredibly harsh if Gracia does keep us up – but is then forced to go. Gracia himself may refuse to accept a deal that would not include the possibility of remaining at Elland Road beyond the summer, if Leeds survive.

So, the Star report that Leeds have in fact, included a clause that will see Gracia extend his stay at Elland Road if Leeds survive the drop. An achievement that with 15 League games to go, looks very tricky. Our last win was in November.

So, it is down to Gracia. The incentive is there, in his contract. If he can keep Leeds in the Premier League, like Jesse Marsch did last season – finally, beating Brentford away from home on the final day of the season – then, he will stay.

The source of this information is perhaps up in the air but there may be more solid knowledge to appear once Gracia pens a contract and an announcement is made. Finally, though, it looks as if Leeds have got a new manager in.
