The Sun claim Leeds have asked Manchester City about a stunning return to Elland Road for Kalvin Phillips on loan but the Premier League champions have blocked any moves for the England star – with West Ham and Everton keen, too.
Phillips, 27, has endured a difficult start to life at Manchester City after completing a £42million move to The Etihad. A fee that could also see Leeds receive a further £3million in add-ons. Phillips has managed just eight outings for City.
Injuries have hampered his progress. Now fit, he remains behind Rodri in the midfield pecking order. He has been an unused sub in five of City’s last seven Premier League games. Leeds have asked City about a potential loan for Phillips.
The Whites are not alone in making a loan enquiry for the England midfielder. West Ham and Sean Dyche at Everton have also asked City to let Phillips go on loan. Pep Guardiola has ruled out any chance of Phillips leaving this month.

Leeds have brought in Weston McKennie on a loan-to-buy deal from Juventus. It might have been that Leeds asked City about Phillips – and having been told no, they moved for Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson’s USMNT teammate.
McKennie solves the lack of strength in depth in midfield and it is unlikely that if Leeds are to do business before the deadline, it will be in the middle of the park. But given Phillips is a Leeds favourite, that may convince Leeds anyway.
But as things stand, Phillips will be staying at City at least until the summer. Leeds have worked hard in the current window and should be incredibly happy with their work over the last four weeks. Everton and West Ham are at work.
