A report from Spanish newspaper SPORT claims Leeds United and Arsenal – as well as a number of other clubs in Europe – are to miss out on the signing of Barcelona talent Ilias Akhomach, with Villarreal close to completing a deal.
Akhomach, 19, is set to leave Barcelona on a free transfer this summer after failing to break into the senior side on a regular basis. Xavi has numerous wingers at his disposal and Akhomach has only managed three first-team outings.
Raphinha has played a part in his exit – as have Ousmane Dembele, Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati. Leeds have been linked with the Spain U19 captain for some time now, but the links originated while Victor Orta was still at the club.
With Orta leaving, interest and a potential deal for Akhomach seemingly came to an end. Now, with Leeds suffering relegation, any hope of a deal for Akhomach is over. SPORT say as much, listing Leeds as a club to show interest.

Arsenal, Milan and Sevilla, too. But it seems Akhomach has now made his decision following the final La Liga game of the season last weekend. It is said he will joined Villarreal, who finished fifth and qualify for the Europa League.
Leeds and Arsenal miss out as Villarreal close to Ilias Akhomach deal
The departure of Orta would have ended any potential move for Akhomach and then, even more so, relegation. The Barca gem is a player that will fancy himself in the top leagues of Europe. Championship football would not appeal.
So, it does not come as much of a surprise that Leeds have failed to secure a deal for Akhomach. Instead, he will be aiming to kickstart his career with Villarreal. With the La Liga side in Europe, there will be plenty of games to play.
