This weekend could prove crucial in San Francisco 49ers Enterprises’ pursuit of completing a full takeover of Leeds United.

That is according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who report that prior to the news of Andrea Radrizzani’s attempted use of Elland Road as collateral in securing a bank loan for his takeover of Sampdoria, this weekend has been ‘spoken about as a key point’.

It is also claimed, though, that given the midweek revelations, it could now rumble on into next week, but confidence remains there a deal can be agreed.

49ers Enterprises currently own a 44% stake in the Whites but are keen on completing a full buyout, despite relegation to the Championship last week.

A deal had been agreed in the event of Leeds’ survival, but a new deal is now having to be negotiated, which could see Radrizzani lose out on £270 million.

Crucial days ahead for Leeds

It has been a topsy, turvy few days of news regarding Leeds’ takeover, with the beginning pointing only towards a full takeover.

However, after Radrizzani’s statement on Wednesday – which seemed to reaffirm his commitment to the club – it changed the picture.

His position at Leeds now looks untenable, though, after the news of his agreement in principle to use Elland Road as security for a bank loan, throwing a fresh twist into proceedings.

One way or another this must be concluded in the coming days, as it is widely reported Leeds can only press the green light on key appointments once it is done.

Leeds cannot afford to waste anymore time with a plethora of work needed to be done to get ready for the Championship season.
