Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport have reported this morning that Juventus opened talks with Leeds United over the signing of Willy Gnonto on Thursday – and, with Galatasaray for previous Leeds target Nicolo Zaniolo.
Juventus squeezed into Europe despite a points deduction this season, securing seventh spot in Serie A. It means they will be in next season’s Europa Conference League, but they will have to cash in on a number of key players.
The report from GDS states that Liverpool and Bayern Munich both want to sign Fede Chiesa. The Italy star may go if offers of around £40m are made. So, Juve are looking to bring in replacements and have opened talks for two.
Indeed, the first being Gnonto. The 10-time Italy teen is expected to leave this summer and plenty of Europe’s elite are chasing him. A move to Juve would certainly appeal and being in the Conference League may actually help him.
Juventus open talks with Leeds for Gnonto, and previous target Zaniolo
It would see Gnonto get more game time for Juventus, given he will not be an automatic starter – at least, to begin with. It remains unclear how much Leeds could get for Gnonto this summer. He’s not the only one Juve want to sign.
Indeed, the other is Galatsaray’s Zaniolo – who moved to the Turkish club in January from Roma after protests and threats against the Italy ace. CalcioMercato said in January that Leeds made a loan offer, with an obligation to buy.
It was rejected as Jose Mourinho’s side looked to sell permanently. He moved to the SuperLig, scoring five goals and creating one more in 11 games. Juventus have also opened talks to bring him back to Italy after just six months.
