Report: Helder Costa's boss Nuno in surprise talks over Wolves return

Helder Costa has very much become a forgotten man since leaving Leeds United on loan in the summer after an underwhelming time at Elland Road.

Costa managed just eight goals in 71 appearances. Admittedly, he did play an important role in the Whites’ promotion to the Premier League. But he never managed to live up to expectations given that he became one of the club’s most expensive signings ever when he joined permanently (Transfermarkt).

Costa spent last season on loan with Valencia. And it was no surprise this past summer when he was on the move once again, heading to Saudi Arabia to join Al-Ittihad.

The move saw Costa link up with Nuno Espírito Santo. Nuno had been in charge during Costa’s time at Molineux. And the Angola international may have been hoping that the reunion may help reignite his career.

Unfortunately, it now appears that their reunion may prove to be a short one.

Helder Costa facing uncertain situation out on loan

The Athletic is now reporting that Wolves are in surprise talks with Nuno about a return to the dug-out. He is keen to come back to the club as Bruno Lage’s successor.

Interestingly, Nuno leaving his current side may not be the worst news for Costa – should it happen.

The winger has not exactly taken the league by storm since his arrival. In fact, he has not featured in any of Al-Ittihad’s last three games. He was an unused substitute for the win against Al-Fateh this month.

Meanwhile, he has not scored or provided an assist in his four league appearances so far. And he even played as a holding midfielder in his last game for the club.

Obviously, it is hard to see the 28-year-old playing for Leeds again while they remain in the top-flight. But a superb spell in the Middle East may have boosted Leeds’ hopes of receiving a decent fee for Costa further down the line.

There is a long way to go in his spell. But it will be interesting to see how he is impacted should Nuno now make a Premier League return.
