The Mail claim that Patrick Vieira is desperate to get back to work and is set to hold talks with Leeds in the coming days over the vacancy at Elland Road. The Frenchman has been out of work since leaving Crystal Palace this year.

Vieira, 46, impressed at Palace after joining the London side from OGC Nice. His first season delighted fans and while Palace were firmly in the bottom half, he had changed the style of football – delighting the Selhurst Park fans.

But, his second season did not go to plan. A horrible run of games after the new year saw Palace fail to win a few matches on the bounce and Steve Parish made the decision. Out went Vieira, somewhat hardly, Roy Hodgson in.

Now, Vieira is a serious contender at Elland Road. One of three, Scott Parker and Daniel Farke are at the interview stage. Arsenal icon Vieira joins them. Mail say he’s absolutely desperate, ‘eager’ to get back into a manager role.

The report does not state specifically what Vieira thinks about the Leeds job, but there is a clear willingness to meet and discuss taking the job – and that talks could determine whether Leeds want him, and if Vieira wants to join us.

Is Vieira a good choice? Well, bringing in a big commanding figure that the players will buy into straight away will certainly motivate and bring the players together. It will also help Leeds in the window, given his huge connections.

Vieira has played and managed in the Premier League, Serie A, Ligue 1 and the MLS throughout his career and that know how will be enormous. It helps him scour the market for players that he thinks can help Leeds get promoted.
