The Mail claim Ethan Ampadu does not feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team plans this summer as Leeds close in on their first senior signing in the form of the Welshman – with reports claiming Leeds have made a bid for him.

Ampadu, 22, returns to Chelsea this summer after four consecutive season-long loan spells away from the club. The Wales star is in the final 12 months of his Chelsea stay, and is likely to go – after just 12 outings for the London oufit.

The Evening Standard says Leeds have tabled an offer to sign £12m-rated Ampadu. Graham Smyth says he is now ‘likely’ to be our first senior signing of the summer. It is clear Chelsea want to sell Ampadu – thanks to Pochettino.

That is because The Mail report that despite Ampadu’s 60 Serie A outings over the last two seasons, and his 43 caps for Wales, Ampadu is not part of Pochettino’s plans. It has made him available and Leeds are ready to swoop.

Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Rasmus Kristensen have all been allowed to leave Leeds since relegation, while Marc Roca completed a move to Real Betis on Monday. So, there are gaping holes in midfield. In comes Ampadu.

A player more than able of playing in either role. At 22, he is already supremely experienced – playing in the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A. A regular for Wales. For £12m, Ampadu would be a wonderful summer addition.

But given the amount of players leaving Chelsea, it might have tempted Pochettino to have a look at Ampadu and give him a chance in the senior side next season. But instead, the Argentine has decided to sell – potentially to us.
