Birmingham City will make Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts their first signing of the summer, but will pay much less than £750,000 to sign the Wales international.

That is according to a report from Birmingham Live, which suggests that the 24-year-old has agreed terms and undergone a medical with the Blues.

It has been expected for a little while that Tyler Roberts would be leaving the Whites this summer. He spent last season on loan with Queens Park Rangers. And the spell did not exactly go to plan.

Birmingham to announce Tyler Roberts signing

Leeds’ relegation may have left some wondering whether Roberts would get a fresh chance. But the Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Roberts was undergoing a medical with Birmingham.

It seems that everything has gone to plan as Birmingham Live is now reporting that Roberts will become the club’s first addition of the summer.

Interestingly, the Mail reported that Birmingham would pay £500,000 plus add-ons for Roberts. But Birmingham Live is now claiming that the fee will actually be much lower than £750,000.

Ultimately, the fee is not going to be a game-changer for Leeds. And the club were never going to price Roberts out of a move at this stage.

But he does have the potential to be a very shrewd signing for Birmingham. And obviously, Leeds are going to be coming up against John Eustace’s men next year.

It is always sad when one of the players who helped the club to promotion leave. Roberts divided opinion amongst fans. But he still managed to contribute a fair amount during his time at Elland Road.

It is the kind of move which will probably suit all parties. And hopefully Roberts goes on to have a very good career in the years to come.
