James Milner returning to Leeds United in the summer cannot yet be ruled out – if the Whites manage to stay in the Premier League.
That is according to a report from the Daily Mail, which suggests that Brighton and Hove Albion remain favourites to sign the Liverpool star on a free transfer.

James Milner looks set to bring the curtain down on a remarkable stay on Merseyside. He has certainly established himself as one of the greatest servants the Premier League has had.
Milner could yet return to Leeds
It seemed that he may sign up for the Brighton revolution this summer. But perhaps Leeds could yet force a twist in the tale – on one very obvious condition.

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds are interested in signing Milner nearly two decades after his departure. And a move cannot yet be ruled out if the Whites manage to keep themselves in the Premier League.
Of course, that is looking like a real uphill battle right now. Sam Allardyce’s men remain in the bottom three right now. And there is a world where they could be relegated as early as this weekend.
Certainly, one win feels essential at the very least. But there is a little more belief after the spirited fight against Newcastle at the weekend. That result could have been even better had Patrick Bamford doubled Leeds’ lead from the penalty spot during the first-half.
Signing the ‘astonishing‘ Milner would be a huge statement. He remains a fan favourite at Elland Road.
It would also represent a positive sign for supporters. Milner would clearly love to play for Leeds again. But he is also the ultimate professional. He is not going to spend the final years of his career playing for a team which has no direction.
If Leeds stay up and manage to convince Milner to snub Brighton, that is surely an encouraging statement that the club will be able to get back on track.
