Leeds United defender Diego Llorente is closing in on a return to AS Roma after fresh talks between the two clubs took place this week.
That is according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports Leeds and Roma are on the way to ‘finding the right formula’, with Llorente almost certainly set to be on his way back to the Italian capital.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether it will be another loan deal or permanent move, with both having been discussed in recent weeks.
Llorente first made the switch to Roma on deadline day in January, joining on a temporary deal with an option-to-buy of around £18 million.
However, it quickly became apparent that fee was something Roma would be unable to meet and as such, the two clubs have been forced to return to the negotiating table, with a new agreement now close.
Llorente set for Roma return
Despite the arrival of Evan Ndicka on a free transfer, Roma have still been keen to bring Llorente back to the club after an impressive few months in Serie A.
The Spaniard made 12 appearances in total for Jose Mourinho’s side, including three in the Europa League – a competition which they reached the final of, only to be beaten by Sevilla.
It is clear Llorente made a big impression at Roma and so a move back to the Stadio Olimpico is the best for all parties.
Llorente signed a new deal at Leeds back in December but it is clear the Whites won’t receive anywhere close to the previously agreed £18 million.
A relegation release clause is likely to have been included in that aforementioned contract and so if Leeds can get anywhere close to around £10 million, they should be happy.
