Victor Orta could be offered the chance to return to familiar surroundings in his first role since leaving Leeds United, with the Spaniard eyed as potential replacement for Monchi at Sevilla.
That is according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb, which notes that Monchi is in line to leave the Europa League winners to take a similar role at Aston Villa.
Victor Orta left Leeds just before the end of this past season. The 44-year-old departed as Leeds decided to make the change of replacing Javi Gracia with Sam Allardyce with four games remaining.
Orta in line for Sevilla role if Monchi departs
The feeling towards Orta had turned toxic with Leeds, once again, battling to stay in the Premier League. So it is hardly surprising that there was little disappointment when his exit was announced.
Nevertheless, it seems that Orta could be about to take a very decent job. Tuttomercatoweb reports that he is in line to replace Monchi at Sevilla, with the 54-year-old wanted by Aston Villa.
Sevilla had an underwhelming campaign in La Liga, finishing in the bottom-half of the table. But they did win the Europa League once again, beating Roma in the final. They will be in the Champions League next year.
And Orta has history with Sevilla, having previously been technical director in Andalusia. So you would imagine that he would jump at the chance to return to the club.
It did appear that the time had definitely come for Leeds to part ways with Orta. The Spaniard did bring some success. And he will forever by synonymous with the push to appoint Marcelo Bielsa as manager.
But he also appears to be largely responsible for the club not kicking on when they had the chance. It is fair to say that Leeds’ recruitment over the last two years has been a major disappointment.
But it seems that an exciting opportunity now awaits Orta as Leeds head back to the drawing board.
