Leeds United defender Leo Hjelde could be allowed to leave this summer if the right offer arrives amid interest from Salernitana.
That is according to Tutto Salernitana, who report Hjelde could make the switch to Serie A if they submit a suitable offer to Leeds, though there is also interest from elsewhere.
There has now been a number of sources from Italy linking Hjelde with a move to Salernitana, indicating a move could well very much be on.
It was reported by Sky Sports Italy earlier this week that Leeds had entered negotiations with the Italian club over a deal for Hjelde, who has two years left to run on his deal at Elland Road.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Rotherham United, where he made 13 appearances to help the club narrowly secure Championship survival.
Leeds would let Hjelde leave with right offer
This would be a very surprising move from Leeds with his spell at the Millers proving he is more than capable of making an impact in West Yorkshire, particularly after relegation.
Leeds are also desperately short at left back, with Junior Firpo – currently the only recognised option at the club – expected to move on as well.
Hjelde is primarily a centre back but has played more and more as a left back in recent months, and would provide an excellent young option.
However, Leeds also have the likes of Liam Cooper, Max Wober and Pascal Struijk in Hjelde’s position, and are seemingly more inclined to keep them.
It would be a real shame for Leeds to lose a player of Hjelde’s potential so early in his career, but it appears as though they are happy to do so.
