Leeds United are reportedly likely to go back in for Arne Slot this summer if the club can produce a miracle and remain in the Premier League – but Rafael van der Vaart claims he has told Tottenham to go and get the Dutchman.

Slot, 44, has guided Feyenoord to an Eredivisie League title this season – the first of his entire footballing career, despite playing all of his time as a player in his home country. A move abroad this summer would be a career first.

The Athletic reported last week that it is ‘likely’ that Leeds return with an approach for Slot this summer. Of course, any move to convince a manager of Slot’s ability completely depends on Premier League survival – which is unlikely.

But Tottenham are certainly favourites to get him. With Spurs looking for a new manager, van der Vaart claims his old side approached him to ask about Slot. He says he has given Tottenham the green light to bring him to London.

“I do know Tottenham really want him. They asked what I thought of him. He squeezed out the maximum, Feyenoord are so stable. Very green light,” van der Vaart said, when asked if he’d given the green light to Spurs to go for Slot.

“Tottenham is a club I have been in for two years and I have a good relationship with it. They just miss a good coach, a coach who plays the fun football Tottenham always stood for,” van der Vaart added on Studio Voetbal, as per NOS.

There is no chance Slot ends up at Elland Road, now. What was a real possibility at one stage, with Slot said to have been keen on replacing Jesse Marsch in February – but eventually rejecting a move – it now seems like a dream.

Even if Leeds produce a miracle on the final day and leapfrog Everton, you would imagine that Slot will feel that he is now above the likes of Leeds – and good enough to manage a Spurs. He is the kind of gaffer that Spurs really need.
