Alexi Lalas agreed with David Mosse on the State of the Union podcast when the Fox Sports presenter suggested that Leeds United star Tyler Adams was sensational in the USMNT’s opening World Cup game on Monday.
The US will be a little frustrated with their start in Qatar. Ahead of their clash with Wales, many of their supporters may well have taken a draw.
With England winning earlier in the day, it did appear that the two were battling for the other qualifying spot out of the group. And with that, not losing seemed vital.
Tyler Adams was sensational
However, given how the game played out, Gregg Berhalter’s men will be disappointed that they did not secure the three points. They were excellent in the first-half and took the lead through Timothy Weah.
But Wales fought back in the second-half and equalised late on from the penalty spot.
Plenty of the US players struggled after the break. But there is no question that Adams stepped up.
Of course, the Leeds man was captaining the side. And, in what will be absolutely no surprise to Whites supporters, the 23-year-old appeared to cover every single blade of grass.
Certainly, Mosse felt that Adams was a standout for the US. And Lalas agreed that he was probably the best player on the pitch.
“You mentioned Tyler Adams, too. I thought he was sensational. He can hold his head up high,” Mosse told the State of the Union.
“I completely agree with you when it comes to Tyler Adams about how ultimately he was the man of the match for the US,” Lalas went on to say.
Adams is going to play such an important role for America in their upcoming game with England on Friday. The Three Lions showed how dangerous they can be, putting six past Iran in their opening fixture.
Berhalter’s men go into the game as massive underdogs. But they will have no problem getting motivated for the tie.
And if Adams can replicate his performance against Wales, their chances of springing a massive surprise will surely increase considerably.
