Pundit says 27-year-old Leeds player was annoyed with teammates after ‘brilliant’ cross

Tony Dorigo noticed that Junior Firpo was extremely annoyed with his Leeds United teammates at one stage right at the end of the second-half against Coventry City – and insisted that he had every right to be frustrated.

Leeds missed the chance to go to the top of the Championship. And, more importantly, the Whites passed up the opportunity to put their automatic-promotion hopes back in their own hands.

Leeds were poor at Coventry, going 2-0 down inside the first 50 minutes. Much like the clash with Watford last week, Daniel Farke’s side only seemed to show some urgency in the latter stages.

Joel Piroe got one goal back after coming off the bench. But he fluffed his lines when presented with a really good chance in stoppage-time.

Meanwhile, Junior Firpo presented his teammates with a golden opportunity just as the 90 minutes were up.

The left-back produced a superb free-kick from the left-hand side, curling the ball into that corridor of uncertainty on the edge of the six-yard box.

Unfortunately for Firpo, the cross went all the way through the penalty area and ended up going out for a goal kick with no-one able to make the right run.

Speaking on LUTV, Tony Dorigo was baffled that it evaded absolutely everyone. And he noticed that the Dominican Republic international was not at all happy with his teammates.

“Firpo threw his hands up, and has every right to as well because that was a brilliant ball in the perfect spot,” he said.

“It bounces for goodness sake, right on the edge of the six-yard line. So someone has to get there, either near post, middle of the goal or far post. But no-one did. Missed everyone.”

Daniel Farke’s men now need to be flawless

Despite being poor, Leeds had the chances to get something from the game.

We were able to get the job done against Hull in midweek in a similar situation. But that was not the case against Mark Robins’ men.

Obviously, you would hope that Leeds feel that they have a major point to prove on Tuesday against Sunderland. And Elland Road has been a fortress for the side this season.

But you get the feeling that Leeds will have to be flawless now to stand any chance of finishing in the top two after they let Ipswich off in a big way yesterday.
