Pundit on why Leeds will shine away from home, but struggle at Elland Road under Daniel Farke

Sammy Parkin has told the What The EFL podcast that Leeds United are going to shine away from home under Daniel Farke but when at Elland Road – they will struggle to score against Championship sides.

Leeds come into Wednesday night’s fixture against Hull City in good spirits, after smashing Millwall 3-0 at The Den. Both of our League wins have come away from home this season, also beating Ipswich 4-3.

At Elland Road, we are yet to get going – other than the frustrating 2-1 win over Shrewsbury in the Cup. But a pattern is emerging. Clubs are coming to Elland Road and using a low block to prevent us scoring.

Sheffield Wednesday did it well at Elland Road, holding on to a clean sheet. West Brom were defensive in their 1-1 draw and Cardiff played for large parts on the counter in the 2-2 draw. It has thwarted Leeds.

The most-alarming stat is that Leeds have managed just three goals in three games at Elland Road in the Championship, but away from home, we have scored seven in three. Parkin gave his take on it.

“That’s seven goals for Leeds on the road since Daniel Farke has had that bit more clarity about what his squad is going to look like. At Elland Road, they’re probably going to come up against sides that sit in.

“Show no ambition. Maybe this is going to be a pattern. They can be devastating away from home when teams come onto them. Millwall had a go, but at Elland Road it may be difficult to break teams down.”

Parkin: Leeds will struggle to score against sides at home

It is a stat that is somewhat alarming. As the season goes on, if Leeds continue in the – as Parkin puts it – devastating form they have shown away from home in the last two games, clubs will play a low block.

Even when we travel, just to stop our attack. It is down to the likes of Joel Piroe, Georginio Rutter, Willy Gnonto, Cree Summerville, Dan James, Jaidon Anthony and others to find a way of breaking it down.

Failure to do so, and an inability to win matches against a low block at home or even on the road, will curtail any chance the club has of promotion. Hopefully, that could change against Watford on Saturday.
