Micky van de Ven is up there with some of the best signings made in the summer and he proved as much once again on Friday night as Tottenham beat Palace – and it could help Leeds get Joe Rodon.
Van de Ven, 22, joined Spurs in the summer after just a year at Wolfsburg. He clocked up 41 games for Wolfsburg during 2022-23 and that was enough to convince Spurs to spend a big £43m to get him.
He has excelled for Premier League leaders Spurs so far this season, playing every minute of their 10 League games. Four clean sheets in those 10, conceding just nine goals. Ange Postecoglou shining.
His arrival probably allowed Spurs to consider the exit of Rodon in the summer, and the Wales star has since caught the eye with Leeds. A player that cost Spurs a fee of £15m back in the summer of 2020.
Leeds will be desperate to keep Rodon at Elland Road beyond the end of the season. Whether that is in the Premier League, or in the Championship. It is unlikely Spurs want more than the fee paid for him.
Van de Ven’s Tottenham form could help Leeds get Rodon
So, in the Premier League, there is every chance Leeds could get him. Certainly, Tottenham will have to consider a sale. Had van de Ven failed, and Rodon impressed as he has, they might have had a look.
Postecoglou might have said at the end of the season that he would bring Rodon back into the fold at Spurs. But with the Dutch defender shining in a Spurs shirt, Spurs no longer have any need for Rodon.
Van de Ven starred in Friday night’s 2-1 win over Palace, his pace often allowing him to catch up. As he shines, Spurs will be more open to selling Rodon – and that could allow us to striker a permanent deal.
