Max Wober was given a starting brief on the left side of the defence for Austria on Friday night against Azerbaijan in a Euro 2024 qualifier – but the Leeds United defender was subbed off after just 34 minutes with a suspected injury.
Wober, 25, has been crucial for Leeds since coming into the side from Salzburg in January. Playing 13 times, Leeds have conceded just 11 goals while the Austrian has been on the pitch. He is getting the best out of Robin Koch.
Leeds lost Tyler Adams prior to the international break and his absence was felt against Wolves, despite the 4-2 win. Now, Wober will be worrying Leeds fans. With Austria leading 2-0 against Azerbaijan, his side were coasting.
But, on 34 minutes, Wober signalled to the bench that he needed to come off. Goal claim in their live commentary of the match that it is because of an injury. He was replaced by Bologna defender Stefan Posch on Friday night.

It is completely unclear at this stage whether Wober has picked up an injury – and if he has, the extent of it. But, it will come as a concern. Wober has been central to Leeds turning their defensive fortunes around in recent games.
Despite only joining in January and starting just 11 of his 13 games – Wober has instantly become crucial to this Leeds side. If the club are to stave off the threat of relegation – then keeping Wober fit and ready to go is pivotal.
Wober did pick up a yellow earlier in the game. With Austria winning 2-0 at the time of his exit from the pitch, it does suggest that if an injury was minor – Austria were in a position to take him off as a precaution. Worrying, though.
