New Leeds United star Joel Piroe has been criticised for proving too selfish on Friday night against Rotherham United by Sky Sports co-commentator Don Goodman – with Piroe struggling again.

Leeds failed to make it four wins on the bounce at The New York Stadium tonight, despite the perfect start as Cree Summerville scored again – after a beautiful assist from Georgie Rutter. But that was it.

That was as good as it got for Leeds, as they dominated possession but ended up conceding at the end of the first half. The second 45 was much more balanced, Rotherham arguably having better chances.

Jaidon Anthony had a goal disallowed with Patrick Bamford narrowly offside in the last few minutes, and there were a few other half chances. But Leeds were nowhere near as good as they have been this term.

Piroe has struggled recently. Yes, he got the winner against Plymouth but after an electric start to life at Leeds – the Dutchman has failed to get going since. On Tuesday, he lasted the entire 90, but struggled.

Leeds star Joel Piroe criticised for being selfish at Rotherham

Piroe took a number of shots on during the night but was never really going to test Swedish stopper Viktor Johansson. On 75 minutes, the new signing tried to curl one in from a tight angle, into the corner.

But his tame effort – as was, his entire display on Friday night – was straight at Johansson. Players were visibly frustrated with the ex-Swansea man, given they were better placed. A little cross was required.

During his role as co-commentator, Don Goodman was very critical. He hammered Piroe, accusing him of being too selfish throughout and said he needed to consider his teammates, in better positions.

“Wrong choice, it’s a poor choice. He’s taken a few shots himself tonight when other players have been better positioned. Is he really going to score there? Wrong choice,” Goodman said, on Sky Sports.
