Plymouth Argyle boss Steven Schumacher has been quoted by Leeds Live as saying that his side should have had a penalty on Saturday during Leeds United’s 2-1 win – for a foul by Ethan Ampadu.
Leeds secured a third win in a row and six from seven games on Saturday at Elland Road, after first-half goals from Dan James and Joel Piroe. Leeds had numerous chances to go three and four in to the lead.
But just before the break, Plymouth were calling for a penalty. Ex-Sunderland man Bali Mumba went down in the penalty area after a challenge from Ampadu – but referee Josh Smith waved away claims.
Speaking after the match on Saturday evening, Argyle gaffer Schumacher said that his side should have had a penalty at the end of the first half for Ampadu’s challenge – claiming he even heard the contact.
“Mumba and Ampadu came together. You could hear the contact in the box. Should have been penalty. Their player had no contact with the ball. Yet again, we don’t get a big decision at a big stadium.”

Even if it was a penalty – one of those ones that had VAR been active, it would not have overturned the on-field decision either way – Leeds deserved to win the game. Should have scored four or five goals.
Jaidon Anthony should have tucked one in the bottom corner. Willy Gnonto had a one on one. Georginio Rutter should have tapped home Crysencio Summerville’s cut-back. But Joel Piroe got in the way.
