Jesse Marsch instantly became unpopular back in January when his lack of game time for Mateusz Klich saw him leave Leeds United – and since, the stats prove he has been shining for DC United in the MLS.
Klich, 33, has been excellent for DC. He has had a hand in 11 goals in 36 games for the MLS side, under Wayne Rooney – who has since left as the club’s manager to join Birmingham City in the Championship.
The stats are proof, for Klich. In the entire MLS, Klich sits fifth in key passes – as per WhoScored. In a new league, albeit with less quality, that is an impressive achievement. 79 key passes in 32 MLS games.
That is an average of around two and a half key passes every game – incredible stats. He sits behind ex-Aston Villa playmaker Carles Gil and Argentina star Thiago Almada, a player once linked with Leeds.
Klich is showing not only Leeds that Marsch made a mistake in not playing him, but also Poland – and that he deserves a call-up back into the squad. What is also interesting, is Kai Wagner sits in ninth.

Just behind Klich, German star Wagner has been sensational for Philadelphia over the last five years. This season, 13 goals and assists in 40. From left-back, a huge 67 key passes in just 27 MLS outings.
Indeed, he is level with eighth and seventh – a defender. That is seriously impressive. The Athletic say Leeds have shown interest in him, and he will not be signing a new deal. His contract ends in December.
The standard of the MLS is improving. There are examples of MLS stars coming to England impressing. Miguel Almiron, for example, with Newcastle. Klich’s exit was a mistake, and Wagner should be signed.
