Burnley have seen an opening offer for Leeds United target Gustavo Hamer rejected by Coventry City.
That is according to Team Talk, who report the Clarets made an offer of £8 million + Luke McNally and Bobby Thomas for Hamer, which was swiftly rejected by Coventry.
As per the report, the Sky Blues are said to be ‘reluctant’ to sell their midfield talisman unless a straight cash offer of £15 million is submitted.
Hamer is into the final year of his contract at Coventry but having already lost last season’s top scorer Viktor Gyokeres to Sporting Club de Portugal, they are now determined not to lose another key player.
At this stage it is unclear whether Burnley will return with a second bid, with Vincent Kompany already showing in the case of Nathan Tella they will not overpay for any of their targets this summer.

From a Leeds perspective, Hamer is a player who is extremely well liked among the recruitment staff at Elland Road, and is on a shortlist of potential midfield targets.
However, following relegation to the Championship, it remains to be seen whether Leeds will spend as much as £15 million on a single player.
That said, Hamer would bring a significant amount of quality to Leeds’ midfield having established himself as one of the best players in the division in recent years.
Hamer scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in the 2022/23 Championship campaign, and those sort of numbers from midfield is something Leeds did not have last season.
Coventry are clearly determined to keep Hamer this summer, but it may just be worth Leeds testing the waters.
