Phil Hay has written on The Athletic’s website that Leeds United outcast Tyler Roberts is set to join Championship side Birmingham City on a permanent basis this summer – after positive discussions over a fee, and add-on clauses.
Roberts, 24, is back at Leeds after a difficult season on loan at Championship side QPR. The London side struggled and survived relegation towards the end of the year. Roberts himself, managed to play 20 times in league and cup.
The Wales star left Leeds last summer after Jesse Marsch brought in new additions in attack, like Luis Sinisterra, Brenden Aaronson and Willy Gnonto. But injuries hampered him at QPR. He missed out on Wales’ World Cup squad.
So, after five and a half years at Leeds following his £4m move from West Brom in January 2018, Roberts is set to return to the Midlands. Hay reports that talks over a fee and add-ons have been positive and Roberts is on his way.
Birmingham have a bit of cash in the coffers after concluding the sale of Jude Bellingham’s younger brother Jobe to Sunderland earlier this week. It is likely that that cash has allowed Birmingham to push for the transfer of Roberts.

A real shame. Roberts joined Leeds and there were glimpses of magic. That 0-0 draw against Chelsea in the top tier, hitting the bar and running the game from attacking midfield. But injuries and a lack of momentum hindered him.
What he needs at this stage in his career is a kickstart. A team where he is first choice, playing regularly. A platform to win his place back in Rob Page’s squad. Birmingham could be ideal for him. It is unclear how much he will cost.
