Phil Hay has reported on The Athletic’s website that Leeds United have received enquiries from abroad for talented midfielder Darko Gyabi – but are unwilling to sell the teen. It comes after he starred for England U20’s in Argentina.
Gyabi, 19, managed just three senior outings for Leeds last season following his £5m move from Manchester City. But, he was key in Leeds securing an instant return to the top flight of Premier League 2, promotion via play-offs.
The feeling is for Gyabi, that Premier League 2 football – even in the top flight – is now a step below him. Either, this is his breakthrough season or he goes on loan. With Leeds lacking in midfield, the former is very much expected.
Indeed, it comes after shining in Argentina at the U20 World Cup for England. Gyabi is also likely to start against Manchester United on Wednesday in Oslo, as Daniel Farke embarks on his first pre-season friendly as Leeds boss.
Hay reports on Tuesday morning that Leeds have fielded enquiries for Gyabi from abroad. However, Leeds are not interested in letting the ex-Manchester City talent leave – a player that Michael Skubala said is “really consistent”.

Right decision. With all the senior players garnering interest, it does come as a bit of a surprise to hear there are clubs interested in Gyabi – but maybe less so, given his summer form in South America. Leeds have got to keep him.
It seems the Leeds board and Daniel Farke are aware that Gyabi is on the cusp of a breakthrough season with the first team – especially, after relegation to the Championship. It is paramount that Leeds are not tempted into a sale.
