Phil Hay has told The Square Ball’s latest podcast that it feels like it is “now or never” for Cody Drameh at Leeds United – either, he stays this summer and has to be first choice on the right flank, or is sold in the coming weeks.
Drameh, 21, returns to Leeds after a second very successful loan in the Championship. The ex-Fulham defender won the Player of the Season award at Cardiff in 2021-22, after a half-season loan. Then, Luton in January 2023.
He helped the Hatters gain promotion. Clubs are interested. Lancs Live say Brentford have joined Burnley and Luton in the race for Drameh. But Drameh has been a prominent member in the return to pre-season training this week.
It does seem that given the posts on social media, Drameh will be staying at Leeds. Hay has told TSB podcast that he feels it will be now or never for Drameh this season at Leeds. Either he starts as first choice, or is sold by Leeds.
“If Drameh isn’t starting to push through, what is he actually doing. Player of the Season at Cardiff, Luton promoted. Why is he going to want to sit around doing nothing. Now or never for Drameh, or sell. He is clearly good enough.”

Leeds and Daniel Farke are making a mistake if they do not make Drameh first choice at this point. Leeds need a reset and while keeping Luke Ayling in the squad as cover at right-back, centre-back is good – Drameh must start.
His form in the Championship on loan at Cardiff, and then Luton, is proof of that. If we do not keep Drameh, then he is going to join a Premier League club – and that compounds what would be a huge mistake. He must be first choice.
