Phil Hay has told The Square Ball podcast that he expects Leeds United to make an offer to keep Adam Forshaw for the 2023-24 season, despite stating on the retained list that he will not yet be offered a new deal. Joel Robles, too.
Forshaw, 31, is out of contract at the end of the month. Leeds stated that while he and Robles would not be offered a new deal, they will be invited back for pre-season training. It allows a new boss to decide what to do with them.
The ex-Everton man was one of our best players towards the end of the season. But, of course, his injury issues are long-lasting. Back in the Championship, you would suggest that keeping Forshaw at Elland Road would make sense.
Hay was asked about the future of Forshaw and Robles, and the Athletic reporter states that it is his understanding that Forshaw will be given a new deal. However, a deal that reflects his lack of game time over the last few years.

It is the right move. Forshaw is a midfielder with Premier League quality. He is a leader in the dressing room and a role model to look up to. But the issue is handing Forshaw a new deal and then the player breaking down, injured.
But it all depends on the new manager. At the moment, the options look three-fold. Daniel Farke and Scott Parker are still out of work. The other name in the hat is West Brom’s Carlos Corberan. Forshaw’s future is in the balance.
