Phil Hay has written in his latest column with The Athletic that as many as 24 managers – or “two-dozen” were on Leeds United’s initial managerial shortlist, before the club then conducted initial zoom calls with 10 of those 24.
Leeds are said to be finishing up their interview process today, before announcing a manager in the next few days. The front runners reported in the media are Daniel Farke, Patrick Vieira and the less likely choice of Scott Parker.
Farke and Parker both have two promotions from the Championship on their CV. Hay says that the 49ers seriously considered past successes in the Championship as a factor when choosing a new boss, and conducting interviews.

Vieira, meanwhile, was said to be tempted with a move to Elland Road while still Crystal Palace boss – following the sacking of Jesse Marsch in February. Hay says two-dozen managers were shortlisted, and 10 held initial zoom talks.

We are now approaching a fortnight away from a pre-season friendly against Manchester United in Oslo. The squad themselves return on July 2, and the international players are due to come back on July 10. Speed is now a priority.

Leeds need to choose a manager. Hay also reports that Leeds may hold off from naming the new manager, even if they have picked him, until the 49ers announce complete control – and that is hoped to be within the next week.
So, Leeds fans are likely to be made to wait. There could be an announcement this weekend but the chances are, and judging by how long we have waited so far, it will go into next week. Time is ticking and a manager is needed.
