Phil Hay has reported on The Athletic that an impending takeover of Leeds United by the 49ers’ Enterprises could happen even sooner than this summer – with the two parties having an agreement in place for January 2024.
The 49ers currently boast a 44% stake in Leeds, while Andrea Radrizzani and his ASER Group hold 56%. But his majority stake in Leeds has been reducing, and reducing. It is believed to be a gradual process before a takeover.
The 49ers have an agreement in place where they can buy the club outright in January 2024. But actually, it is likely Leeds are bought a lot earlier. Many reports suggest that the 49ers could make a move in the summer window.
While relegation would affect a potential takeover, it is not said to be a determining factor. Now, Hay has dropped an update. Reporting on the Jean-Kevin Augustin case, he dropped a bit of news regarding the takeover, too.
He states that while the 49ers have an option to buy in January 2024, the feeling is that Leeds will be bought this summer or – even sooner. It might be that Leeds changes hands before the end of the footballing season.

It does feel like the club is coming to an end of an era and that change is required. Leeds have been fighting against the drop for what feels like forever – but it is two years since Leeds could consider themselves above the scrap.
Plenty of criticism has come in the way of the Leeds board. Mostly, Victor Orta, who is under fire after FIFA ruled Leeds must pay Augustin £24.5m, after agreeing a £15.5m fee with Leipzig. A total on the striker then, of £40m.
