Phil Hay has confirmed Leeds United are working on a deal to sign Swansea City striker Joel Piroe.
Hay provided the update on the Athletic’s live transfer blog, where he claimed Leeds are looking to strike an agreement of anywhere between £8 – £10 million.
It is said that contrary to reports from Wales Online earlier this week, Piroe is expected to depart Swansea before next Friday’s 11pm deadline.
Piroe has the offer of a two-year contract extension on the table at Swansea but has so far refused to commit his future to the club, raising the likelihood of an exit.
Hay says Leeds are expected to face major competition for Piroe’s signature but have now stepped up their pursuit of the striker in their search for a new number nine.

News of Leeds’ interest first broke this morning with Alan Nixon reporting on his patreon that the Whites had firmed up their interest.
As per Nixon, Leeds are willing to pay as much as £15 million to land Piroe, though this latest update indicates they will look to sign him for much less.
Piroe would represent a significant addition for Leeds if they are able to get it done, with his track record in the Championship second to none.
He has netted 41 goals across the last two seasons since moving to Swansea from PSV and would provide Leeds with that clinical edge in the final third they are currently missing.
It would be a real statement of intent from the San Francisco 49ers Enterprises.
