Leeds United are among a host of clubs in the race to sign Swansea City striker Joel Piroe.

That is according to Phil Hay of the Athletic, who reports Piroe is someone Leeds targeted at the end of last summer’s transfer window, and are prepared to reignite their interest.

Leeds are set to be in the market for a new striker this summer with last season’s leading marksman Rodrigo Moreno expected to leave amid interest from Qatar and the Premier League.

Patrick Bamford, Georginio Rutter and Joe Gelhardt are other options, though the former’s fitness and form remains unreliable with just six league goals in two seasons.

Rutter and Gelhardt, meanwhile, excel in positions just off the front, with Leeds’ £35 million January signing expected to be used in a wide role under Daniel Farke.

Piroe has been a consistent marksman at this level for two seasons now after arriving at Swansea from PSV in the summer of 2021.

He netted 19 goals last season after scoring 22 in his debut campaign and has just 12 months left to run on his contract in South Wales.

Leeds will face stiff competition for his signature, though, with Leicester City also keen and Everton having too been linked in recent days.

Piroe is still only 23 and has plenty of room for improvement, with the Dutchman capable of scoring all sorts of goals, whether it be from distance or with his head.

The prospect of him leading the line, with the likes of Rutter and potentially Wilfried Gnonto in behind is an exciting thought for the Championship.
