Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton has backed Leeds United teenager Archie Gray to break into the England side ahead of Euro 2028 – as he continues to make an incredible start to life at Elland Road.

The United Kingdom and Ireland have been confirmed as hosts for the 2028 European Championships, with an announcement taking place earlier this week. It is only the second time England have hosted.

The last time, Euro 96 – while Euro 2020 was played throughout a number of European countries. It is likely that Elland Road is one of the stadiums used for the competition in just over four years time.

Jermaine Beckford described Leeds wonderkid Gray as “phenomenal” after his debut against Cardiff earlier this season. He has certainly been that. Thornton backed him to be in England’s Euro 2028 side.

“One player worth looking out for is Archie Gray. He’s still only 17. There has been a lot of hype around him. If he continues to progress, he could be in the mix for a place in England’s midfield for 2028.”

The thing is, Gray might have only just turned 22 by the time Euro 2028 comes around. He will still be incredibly young. But the way he is going there is no doubting he could be starting for England by then.

What will need to happen for Gray to be in the reckoning for Euro 2028, is the youngster to be playing in the Premier League. Hopefully, that will be with Leeds. If not, he may have to consider a move away.

This is a long way in advance, though. Right now, Gray needs to continue working his way into the side and honing his skills. He has a top manager in place to aid that, in the form of current boss Daniel Farke.
