Leeds United secured a priceless 2-0 away win over Sheffield Wednesday despite being largely second best in the first half – after, Paul Robinson had made a claim about our promotion chances.
Goals from Patrick Bamford and Willy Gnonto secured all three points for the Whites, making it 11 wins from 12 Championship games. A win that sees us climb into second place, at least for the time being.
The scoreline does not tell the whole story, though. Illan Meslier had to produce a wonderful save from point-blank range early on, as Wednesday penned Leeds in with a succession of corners in the first 45.
But, Junior Firpo’s wonderful cross – with the defender struggling in the first half – was tapped into the net in the final seconds before half-time by Bamford. Then, after the break, Gnonto scored our second.
The Italy star was played in on goal after superb work from Bamford and Georginio Rutter, who nabbed his 16th assist of the season. Another win, with nine games now to play in this Championship campaign.

Paul Robinson delivers Leeds promotion verdict ahead of 2-0 win
Leeds will now have to watch on over the weekend as Ipswich face Cardiff City on Saturday, before the other two sides in this four-horse race – Southampton and Leicester – face Sunderland and Hull City.
Promotion is looking more and more on the cards, even if Ipswich are in excellent form. Leeds are a steam train that do not look as though they are going to be stopped any time soon, or by anyone.
Posting shortly before the game, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson took to Twitter and gave his verdict on our hopes of promotion in the top two. He believes Daniel Farke’s men have what it takes.
