Patrick Bamford has told ITV Sport that Leeds United wonderkid Willy Gnonto does not realise how good he is – and shared how the Italy international arrives at Thorp Arch to train every day, claiming his Father drives him to the club.

Gnonto, 19, scored a brace for Leeds on Wednesday night in a third-round FA Cup replay against Cardiff in a 5-2 win. A wonderful, Paolo Di Canio-esque volley inside 30 seconds. Then, a lovely run that saw him cut inside and net a second.

The Italy international has made a stunning start to life at Elland Road. But it must be remembered that he has only clocked up 10 appearances for Leeds so far. He is still incredibly new to life at Leeds – and indeed, English football.

But, he is extremely likable and already a fan favourite in Yorkshire, boasting his own song. Bamford gave his verdict on Gnonto. He says that he does not know how good he is which is a benefit – and also shared how he attends training.

“I don’t think he realises how good he is. That is a good thing because he is so down to earth. His Dad drives him into training every day. He’s a happy guy, always smiling. One of the kids you warm towards straight away,” Bamford said.

What Leeds have done well over the years, is sign players that have a good personality. Obviously, players with quality, resale value, getting the initial fee right. But players that can fit into the family feel, one-club city kind of vibe at Leeds.

Gnonto’s beaming smile, constantly laughing, and the fact his Dad drives him to training is a sign that Leeds have got another good guy. Luckily for Leeds, he is just as ruthless as he is joyous off the pitch. He could be a real gem for us.
