Patrick Bamford is yet to start for Leeds United this term after returning from injury with Georginio Rutter playing ahead of the striker – and he was asked if he feels any frustration at playing back-up.
Speaking on his new podcast with comedian Joe Wilkinson, My Mate’s A Footballer, Bamford discussed many topics including some of his teammates at Elland Road. The 30-year-old is back from an injury.
But having spent the first couple of months of the season on the sidelines, Bamford has lost his place in the Leeds side. Rutter is starring up top. Joel Piroe is playing behind him as a sort of second striker.
Bamford has come on as a sub in our last eight league games – of course, missing the penalty in the 1-0 loss to Stoke, when the scoreline read 0-0. He was asked if is frustrated, sitting behind Rutter at Leeds.
“I don’t mind it, because Georginio is playing quite well at the moment. I don’t mind it [Georginio ahead of him]. Sometimes, the guy is not a nice guy off the pitch – at past clubs. He’s funny, a really nice lad.”

Even if he was annoyed – which he clearly states he is not – he could have no arguments. Rutter has been sensational and arguably, is one of the best players in the Championship at this moment in time.
Piroe, though, has not played as well as many might have hoped. Yes, he has scored six goals but often, the Dutch striker goes missing in games. There have been calls to make a change, Bamford to start.
Perhaps, dropping Rutter back into the 10 role behind Bamford. But Daniel Farke has not been tempted to do so yet, continuing to place his faith in Piroe and Rutter – who is on duty with France’s U21 side.
