It is probably not all that surprising to hear that Berardi is done as a player. The 34-year-old was often seen as one of the most selfless members of the Leeds United squad during his time at Elland Road. So he will not have to wanted to carry on if he felt that he was not contributing enough.

Immediately, it was clear that he would do for us.

Of course, there were times when Berardi’s wild challenges landed Leeds in bother. But no one could ever question his commitment to the cause.

There was the time when he took a place on the bench for that infamous game against Charlton while not fully fit. And he made sure to help Leeds to promotion after his initial contract expired. Obviously, it was during that extra stage of the season that the defender would sustain an injury which would rule him out of most of the following year.

Berardi has confirmed his retirement on Instagram on Wednesday. And Bamford was amongst those to send a message to the full-back…

It would be brilliant to see Berardi stay in the game.

If only there was a team looking to put together a new coaching team ahead of next season…
