Patrick Bamford has taken to Instagram to laud Illan Meslier after Leeds United ended 2022 with a goalless draw with Newcastle at St James’ Park, with the striker labelling the Frenchman ‘the best’.
Jesse Marsch’s side secured a very credible point on Tyneside on Saturday. It was certainly not pretty, with Leeds struggling to lay a glove on the high-flyers in the Premier League.
We did have a chance or two. Rodrigo forced Nick Pope into a very good save in the second-half. But it is certainly fair to say that one team was a lot happier to hear the full-time whistle.
Bamford lauds Illan Meslier after Leeds draw
Thankfully for Leeds, Meslier continued his fine form this season. And he stepped up in a big way, denying the likes of Fabian Schar and Chris Wood with some superb stops.
No single player did more to earn Leeds that point. And he has now taken to Instagram to express his satisfaction at helping Marsch’s men to the draw.
Amongst those to reply was Bamford, with the forward echoing how many supporters feel about the 22-year-old…

Meslier has definitely returned to form in a big way this season. He started by making some fine saves in the opening day win over Wolves. And he has rarely dropped his standard since.
The scoreline against Manchester City would have been a lot worse without Meslier in midweek. And he has got Leeds across the line against Eddie Howe’s men.
It is not inspiring football. And we remain unconvinced about what kind of direction we are going in under Marsch. But that could be a huge point come the end of the season.
Certainly, if Leeds are going keep themselves in the league, Meslier will deserve enormous praise for a brilliant campaign.
