Javi Gracia has told Friday’s press conference – as per YouTube – he is not interested in thinking about his long-term future at Leeds United as the club’s new manager after being appointed on a ‘flexible contract’, until the summer.
Gracia, 52, was given his work permit as confirmed by the club just moments before Friday’s press conference. He then took the press conference, when it was expected that Michael Skubala would continue in his role as caretaker.
So, Gracia will be in the dugout at Elland Road on Saturday, as Leeds face a huge clash against Southampton. It is not known if he has been able to work with the squad as of yet, but he said Leeds are well-prepared for the game.
Asked about the contract he has been given, Gracia instantly stated that his focus is on Saturday’s game and also, keeping Leeds in the Premier League. But he did state that it is a hard life for a manager – they can come, and go.
“You know our situation, it is not easy for coaches. Maybe you stay one game, or maybe one life. To be honest, I’m focused. When I accepted the challenge because I wanted to be here. I want to achieve the objective, to be here.
“I don’t want to be here just because of a contract. It is better to be focused on the next game. Try to win as soon as possible and try to finish the season, with the objective. But I’m not talking about my future,” Gracia said on Friday.

An impressive press conference. A completely different style that Leeds fans will be used to – with Jesse Marsch very open and almost seeming as though he was a friend, divulging information and going on bizarre rants at times.
Gracia seems more experienced. Tactical, not willing to give away information regarding injuries. Keeping things close to his chest but also speaking with charisma and a smile at times. He came across as an experienced boss.
