Leeds United are being linked with a move for Newcastle United star Sean Longstaff ahead of the summer, and his relationship with Longstaff could prove crucial in a move to lure him to Elland Road.

The 26-year-old has been a regular feature in Newcastle’s midfield three this season – but you might argue that is because of injuries and Sandro Tonali’s ban. The Toon have plenty of talent in the middle.

Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock, Joelinton, Lewis Miley and more. With all available, it is unlikely that Longstaff gets anywhere near the starting XI. His contract at Newcastle is due to end in June 2025.

So, Leeds are being linked with a £15m move for Longstaff. A potential bargain for the midfielder, given Newcastle rated him at £50m in 2019. TeamTalk deliver a bit more information on the potential move.

Indeed, they claim that Nick Hammond – who is working as the club’s sporting director at the moment – could prove key. More specifically, his relationship with Longstaff and Newcastle could be key to a deal.

Nick Hammond relationship with Sean Longstaff aids Leeds deal

Hammond spent six months at Newcastle after the Saudi takeover and within that half-year spell, Longstaff signed a new three-year deal. Hammond will have been key to that, so clearly, he rates him.

It is claimed that Daniel Farke knows his side need Premier League quality added to it, and that could be where Longstaff fits in. Whether he would be tempted by Leeds does remain to be seen, this summer.

Longstaff has played regularly for a side pushing for European qualification and in the Champions League – described as “brilliant” by Jamie Carragher. Would he want to join a newly-promoted side?
