The Mail claim that Leeds United will return to the negotiating table for Andoni Iraola in the summer after publishing a statement that said Michael Skubala will stay in charge for the “upcoming fixtures” – though unclear, how many that is.
Iraola, 40, was one of a number of managers that is said to have rejected a move to Elland Road. The highly-rated boss is impressing on a shoe string at Rayo Vallecano, pushing his side into sixth place. Europe is a real possibility for Rayo.
The Spaniard was arguably the main target for Leeds following the sacking of Jesse Marsch. But, Iraola wants to see out his job at Rayo. Obviously, the La Liga club do not want to lose Iraola either given the job he has done in the dugout.
Since, Leeds have posted a statement stating Skubala will remain in charge for the foreseeable. It did not confirm if he will be in the dugout until the end of the season, but fixtures – plural. Now, The Mail say he could remain until then.
Indeed, Skubala is a contender to be an interim manager at Leeds until the end of the campaign. Meanwhile, Leeds will work on bringing in a boss in the summer. The Mail say Iraola will be the man they target to bring to Elland Road.

The issue Leeds have with looking to approach managers come the end of the season – is that, managers do not know what division Leeds are going to be in. Ultimately, the position of the club is stopping Leeds from hiring a new boss.
Sean Dyche has taken a chance and joined an Everton side, with the confidence in his managerial ability to keep the Toffees up. Leeds have failed to find a manager like Dyche, willing to take a chance. Why would any manager do that?
Especially, a manager that is in a club that are pushing for Europe in Spain’s top tier. He is never going to leave Rayo now – and Leeds cannot even consider luring Iraola, branded ‘very smart’ by Andrea Pirlo, in until survival is secured.
