Alan Nixon has reported on his Patreon column that Alfred Schreuder was left ‘puzzled’ after Leeds United decided not to hand him the Elland Road gig – given he was presented a three-year deal, and then offered an 18-month contract.
Leeds have slipped into the relegation zone after a desperate display at Goodison Park on Saturday, as Everton nabbed all three points to win 1-0. Illan Meslier, who has been superb this season, was at fault as Seamus Coleman scored.
The need for a new manager has never been greater. It comes after the club confirmed Michael Skubala would remain in caretaker charge for the upcoming fixtures. But after Saturday’s result, it is clear that the club need a new direction.
Schreuder was in the stands during the 2-0 loss to Manchester United. He was expected to be offered the role, but the backlash from Leeds fans on social media saw Leeds change their mind. Now, Sun reporter Nixon gives an update.
He claims that in talks, Schreuder was presented with a three-year deal – perhaps, until the summer of 2025. But, Nixon then says an 18-month deal was offered before Andrea Radrizzani opted to pull the plug entirely. A bit of a mess, then.

In the midst of Leeds’ error-ridden pursuit of a new manager, the club have made two correct decisions. The first – being the decision to sack Jesse Marsch. But, the club did not have a plan in place. Secondly, opting against Schreuder.
But after the loss to Everton, Leeds have got to bring in a new boss. It has got to be done as soon as possible. You would hope, after the 1-0 defeat, that the board are pulling in the right direction and new names have been drawn up.
